Is the Promo Business in a Recession? Or Is It Just Me?
Summer 2026 is here, and I have an important question for everyone in the promotional products industry…
Are we in a recession?
Now, before anybody starts throwing leftover trade show tote bags at their computer screens, hear me out.
One day, it feels like the phones are ringing nonstop, clients are ordering branded everything from tumblers to tactical spatulas, and suppliers are shipping products faster than your morning coffee disappears.
The next day, you’re staring at your inbox like it’s a hostage negotiation.
Did everyone go on vacation?
Did budgets disappear?”
Did somebody accidentally unplug the economy?
So, what’s really going on?
Is business **slower than usual** this summer?
Is it **busier than usual**?
Or is it **about the same**, and we’ve all simply developed a mild case of “promo industry whiplash”?
Depending on who you ask, you’ll get a different answer.
Some distributors are saying they’re having one of their strongest years ever.
Others are reporting longer sales cycles, more price shopping, and customers asking if they can get **premium quality, lightning-fast turnaround, and a lower price than last year.**
And then there are the rest of us, quietly refreshing our CRM dashboards every 17 minutes while pretending everything is totally fine.
The truth is…
I honestly don’t know the answer.
That’s why I’m asking you!
This isn’t a scientific study.
There are no economists involved.
No focus groups.
No consultants charging $10,000 to tell us, “It depends.”
This is simply an informal survey of the promotional products community.
I want to hear what’s happening in your world.

* Are certain product categories booming while others have cooled off?
* Have you noticed changes in customer budgets, buying habits, or decision-making?

I can’t wait to read everyone’s responses. Who knows? By the end of this completely unofficial, highly unscientific survey, we might actually figure out what’s going on out there. Or at the very least, we’ll confirm that everyone in promo has mastered the art of surviving uncertainty with a good sense of humor.


I think we are in a recession. Business is down by about 20 percent. Not sure what anyone else is experiencing but…That’s my opinion.
